Pope Workshop
Joel & Erin Smith
My wife and I both attended the clinic in Folsom, LA. I had recently purchased a trained reining horse that I needed to learn to cue correctly and my wife mainly needed work on her confidence. After working with Eber the first day, I discovered that either my trained reining horse was not as trained as I thought he was or I had "dulled" him to the point that he had forgotten his cues. We both made great progress and by the second day we were doing our spins like a pro. Eber gave me the confidence to gallop much faster than I had ever before. He showed me how to correct a few issues with his spin and improve his stop and lead change. I am hoping to begin showing next season.
As for my wife, she loved the clinic. Eber even had time to work with her to begin to teach her western pleasure horse to do the spin and rollbacks. Her confidence level increased greatly over the two days and she was all smiles in her gallop...something that she had been afraid to do before.
The clinic was unlike others we had attended before. This was my first clinic, but my wife had attended other clinics by well known trainers. Eber focuses on each rider evenly, never did he single one rider out and spend the majority of his time with anyone. He also worked on any and all problems each rider may be having no matter if it was related to reining or not. He provided alot of positive feedback and was everyones biggest cheerleader when we did right and was sure to let us know when we did wrong, but he also showed everyone how to correct the problems. His feedback and cirticism was put in a way that was positive and he never talked down to any of the riders.
I am looking forward to a follow-up. This time I will bring my reining horse the first day and then a 4 year old paint gelding who I am trying to train for reining. Should be fun.
Thanks, Joel Smith
